Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP)
~ Individual Counseling
~ Couple, Premarital & Marriage Counseling
~ Family & Group Therapy
EAP is a solution-oriented model of therapy, that incorporates horses for mental health treatment, in which treatment goals, objectives and interventions are the focus. It is a ground based model, which means there is no riding or horsemanship involved.
EAP is a collaborative effort between horses, a mental health professional and an equine specialist working with the clients at all time. Willow Equine offers a non-judgmental space for clients to learn about themselves and others by interacting with the horses. After the time interacting with the horses, clients can reflect on the experience with the treatment team.
All Individuals, ages 5 and up, and groups of any size are given an opportunity to experience the tranquility of the farm and horses. EAP creates a time to learn and explore oneself, problem solving strategies and interpersonal dynamics.
The WE Team begins with a game plan for each session. Sometimes this plan unfolds "perfectly." Other times there is a shift due to the client's need to proceed in a different direction. Life happens and the sessions evolve as they are supposed to. The time spent, with the horses, allows individuals or groups to internally process thoughts as they need.
Sessions also allow for the development of certain skills such as:
~ Non-Verbal Communication
~ Creative Thinking
~ Problem Solving
Clients can attest to the fact that one EAP session can access the same content as years of traditional therapy. Lessons have a deeper meaning when you can see, touch, and smell what is happening! Watch a news feature on Willow Equine!
